Blue Jays News · Cross Country Teams Race Against the Heat at Austintown Suburban League Meet

Tuesday 9/10/2019 the cross country teams traveled to Austintown Township Park to compete in the last regular season suburban league meet before the League Championship in 2 weeks. The kids raced in one of the hottest meets of the season with temperatures in the high 80s-90 on a course which is mainly in the sun. The run was a true test of the athletes strength and stamina. The jays raced against 12-15 huge division 1 teams and about 100-150 runners in each of their races. The top 25 runners received a top finisher ribbon.

The Middle School Boys finished FOURTH overall. The boys had a combined score of 106 points made up of 8, 10, 13, 34, 41 + 49, 49 for our top 7 runners. The middle school boys finished behind Boardman, Canfield, and Austintown. The boys beat out Maplewood, Lakeview, McDonald, and Newton Falls.

The high school boys and girls, and middle school girls did not have enough competing runners to place as a team but they finished strong overall as individuals with many of them finishing in the top of their races receiving awards.

They will race against hundreds of runners on a Regional level course at the biggest race of the season. All teams (high school and middle school) will race again in one week from today (9/17) back at Austintown Township Park for the Mahoning County Invitational.
